Job Description We are seeking a computational biologist with expertise in driving biological discoveries to join Vertex. This position is part of a global Data and Computational Sciences team focused on developing cell and genetic therapies for serious human diseases. You will collaborate with a research team dedicated to discovering and actualizing the next generation of therapies for diseases such as type 1 diabetes and muscular dystrophy. Your responsibilities include designing genomics studies, developing and applying analyses, interpreting results, and impacting the development of transformative therapies and understanding of cell biology and in vivo gene editing. You will play a key role in innovating and applying cutting-edge computational methods for rapid, data-driven decisions. Proactive communication and seamless cross-functional collaboration are essential for success. Key Responsibilities Collaborate proactively with project teams as the bioinformatics expert to identify genomics, sequencing, or bioinformatics needs. Partner with teams to plan studies leveraging sequencing, genetic, and genomic data to answer biological questions and develop genetic therapies. Perform sophisticated computational analyses of sequencing and biological data, utilizing critical thinking, published research, statistics, and data visualization. Communicate complex analyses and results clearly to diverse audiences, highlighting key findings and next steps. Author study reports and white papers to support regulatory submissions. Work with method development teams to improve the usability, accuracy, and robustness of internal methods. Minimum Qualifications PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, human genetics, genomics, systems biology, bioengineering, or related field, with 0-3 years of relevant industry or post-doctoral experience. Master’s degree in the same fields with 3+ years of relevant experience. Proven excellence in analysis, visualization, and interpretation of genomic and NGS data. Ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Deep understanding of gene editing, genetic variation in disease, molecular, and cellular biology. Expertise in applying computational methods and bioinformatics tools to large datasets. Proficiency in R, Python, high-performance computing, and solid statistical knowledge. Team-oriented mindset, positive attitude, and willingness to learn and support others. Pay Range $109,400 - $164,100 Additional Information This role is eligible for bonuses, equity, and other benefits. Salary depends on skills, experience, and other factors.
