As we enter our next chapter, we are looking for a dedicated Human Resources Manager to lead our HR efforts with insight, empathy, and vision.
Position Summary The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership and daily execution of HR functions at Chowgirls. This role drives employee engagement and manages the full scope of human resources services including compliance, recruiting, employee relations, payroll support, benefits, and policy development and implementation. The HR Manager partners with leadership and staff across departments to foster a supportive, legally sound, and people-first workplace that aligns with Chowgirls values and growth goals. This position manages the HR team (HR Generalist and HR Accounting Coordinator), and reports to the CEO.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead HR operations, ensuring compliance with employment laws, internal policies, and hospitality industry standards
- Partner with department heads and leadership to foster a culture of feedback, accountability, and recognition
- Oversee recruitment and onboarding efforts to attract and retain top talent
- Manage performance review cycles, employee engagement initiatives, and career development programs
- Provide counsel on employee relations, conflict resolution, and workplace dynamics with tact and clarity
- Review and update employee handbook, job descriptions, and organizational policies as needed
- Maintain HR systems and records in collaboration with the HR Generalist and HR & Accounting Coordinator
- Lead internal training related to DEI, conflict resolution, and workplace communication
- Support Payroll tasks as outlined

Qualifications
- 5+ years of HR experience, with at least 2 years in an HR management or leadership role
- Deep knowledge of HR compliance and best practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Hospitality, event, or foodservice industry experience is a plus
- PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred
- Bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required
- Experience with BambooHR is preferred but not required

JOB DESCRIPTION HR POLICY AND COMPLIANCE
- Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and proactively update HR policies and procedures as needed.
- Maintain accurate, accessible, and compliant employee records and HR documentation across platforms (including BambooHR and Google Drive).
- Conduct regular internal audits (I-9, 401k, etc.) and lead the development and tracking of compliance metrics.
- Coordinate and complete required legal filings (e.g., EEO-1, ADA, DOL etc) and census data for audits and reporting.
- Provide training to staff and leadership on compliance, anti-discrimination, harassment, and workplace safety policies.
- Advise management on legal HR requirements and risk mitigation strategies.
- Participate in and document investigations, disciplinary meetings, and terminations to ensure legal compliance and best practices are followed.
BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION
- Oversee benefits and paid/unpaid leave programs and associated audits including health and dental insurance, leave policies, 401k, Unemployment, FMLA, Sick/Safe, Family Leave, etc.
- Oversee enrollment, benefits communication, and vendor relationships.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee questions related to benefits and support and resolution of claims or issues.
- Manage benefits administration for salaried, FTE and part time employees in BambooHR, ensuring policies are up to date and activated correctly.
- Coordinate and manage 401k plan employee eligibility, enrollment tracking and policy compliance.
PAYROLL SUPPORT/ FINANCIAL
- Assist in the preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll, including garnishments, time tracking, deductions, and 401k contributions.
- Monitor timekeeping systems (Nowsta) for accuracy and follow up with department leads as needed.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, wage levy, benefits enrollment, etc.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
- Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation as requested
- Year-end reporting including W-2 and ACA Reporting
- Oversee HR-related budget lines including monthly review, forecasting, and coding invoices for HR expenses.
EMPLOYEE LIFECYCLE AND PERFORMANCE
- Collaborate with leadership to understand the organization's goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Lead the full-cycle hiring to termination processes: job postings, interviewing, offer letters, and onboarding/offboarding in BambooHR and other applicable platforms.
- Work with hiring managers to improve diversity throughout the recruiting and hiring process, forecast staffing needs and develop job descriptions.
- Serve as a trusted resource for employee concerns, performance issues, and conflict resolution.
- Foster a culture of open communication, accountability, and professional growth.
- Partner with managers to coach staff and manage disciplinary actions and/or performance improvement plans.
- Coordinate performance review processes and support managers in setting goals and giving feedback.
- Support company-wide training and development opportunities.
- Act as an ethical resource to staff and executive team.
- Provide training to managers and employees on Chowgirls HR processes and standards.
- Manage disciplinary actions and performance improvement plans in tandem with department managers.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
DEI SUPPORT- JUNTOS
- Collaborate on Juntos-related initiatives as an active member of the DEI team.
- Partner with department managers to navigate departmental DEI Initiatives.
- Develop new diversity and inclusion initiatives and strategies in collaboration with management and Juntos leadership.
- Perform other related special projects and duties, as assigned
